Biological treatment of MSW in India could save millions in waste disposal.
The study focused on managing solid waste in Pattukkottai, India. By analyzing the waste composition, it was found that treating organic waste at its source could save a lot of money. Incinerating the waste for energy was not practical. The waste generated mainly consisted of food waste, with carbon being the most common chemical component. A landfill was designed to handle non-biodegradable waste, with specific measures to prevent environmental harm. The study's findings can help cities plan better waste management strategies.
