New maize variety boosts yields, income, and food security in Tanzania!
Stress-tolerant maize varieties can boost maize yield, income, and food security for farmers in Tanzania. By studying 720 households, researchers found that adopting these varieties increased maize yield by 1 ton/ha and maize income by $62/ha. It also reduced the likelihood of food insecurity. The benefits varied depending on how much of the new maize was planted, with more impact seen at lower levels of adoption. Poorer households saw greater productivity gains, highlighting the potential for helping small-scale farmers in Tanzania.
