Climate Change Driving Shifts in Microbial Diversity in Alpine Grasslands.
Temperature and precipitation play a big role in shaping the types of microbes found in alpine grasslands. By studying soil samples from different elevations on the Tibetan Plateau, scientists found that the diversity of soil archaea and bacteria changed with temperature and precipitation levels. The number and variety of microbes decreased as you went higher up the mountain, with the lowest diversity found at around 4800 meters. Factors like soil pH, vegetation richness, and moisture levels were important in determining the types of microbes present. Overall, the study showed that temperature and precipitation have a strong impact on the variety of microbes in alpine grasslands.
