They found that policemen who hide their emotions struggle to recognize others' negative feelings. Happiness is easier to spot than sadness or anger. Fear is the easiest negative emotion to recognize. People who hide their emotions well can quickly spot happiness but often mistake sadness for anger. Fear is recognized more accurately than anger.
