Cutting-Edge Tool Boosts Metal Machining Efficiency, Revolutionizing Manufacturing
The goal of the study was to compare two types of cutting tools in CNC turning to see which one removes material faster. The researchers used poly-crystalline diamond (PCD) inserts and uncoated cemented carbide inserts on SS316L stainless steel. They tested different cutting speeds, feed rates, and depths of cut on 27 samples for each type of insert. The results showed that the PCD insert removed material at a rate of 0.22593 grams per second, while the uncoated insert only removed material at a rate of 0.07600 grams per second. This means that using the PCD insert resulted in a significantly higher material removal rate compared to the uncoated insert.
