New maize hybrids show promise for higher yields in Ethiopia's highlands.
The researchers studied different types of maize plants to see which ones produced the most grain. They crossed 12 different inbred lines with 4 testers to create new hybrids. They found that some of these hybrids produced more grain than the standard varieties. They also grouped the inbred lines into two categories based on their traits. This study shows that more work is needed to create better maize varieties for highland areas in Ethiopia.
