Government subsidies can impact farmland prices, but disaster relief programs may have a different effect. A study in Taiwan analyzed almost 100,000 farmland transactions and found that disaster relief payments can actually decrease farmland prices, especially in urban areas. This suggests that the negative impact of disasters on farm income outweighs the positive effect of relief payments on farmland values.
