Optimizing nitrogen application boosts winter wheat yield and quality.
Nitrogen fertilizer levels and application timing can impact winter wheat yield. In this study, different nitrogen levels and application ratios were tested. The best results were seen with 225 kg/hm2 of nitrogen and a 60%+40% application ratio. Increasing nitrogen initially boosted the number of ears, grains per ear, thousand-grain weight, and overall yield, but excessive nitrogen led to diminishing returns. 225 kg/hm2 was found to be the most suitable nitrogen application rate for winter wheat. Proper nitrogen management can maximize yield and prevent overuse of fertilizer.
