The article analyzes the financial health of 26 EU countries using data from 1995 to 2018. By looking at factors like government debt, revenue, and economic cycles, the researchers found that most EU countries have sustainable fiscal policies. However, some countries in the PIIGS group (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, and Spain) do not meet the criteria for fiscal sustainability. The study suggests the need for better monitoring and regulation of fiscal policies in both core and peripheral EU states.
