New sorghum hybrids promise higher yields, earlier harvests, and ideal height.
Grain sorghum breeding aims to create hybrids with high yield, earliness, and ideal plant height for harvesting. Researchers evaluated 36 hybrids from 12 lines in Brazil to find the best combinations. They identified promising parent lines for breeding more productive, early-maturing, and well-sized plants. Complex crosses are needed to combine favorable traits in new hybrids. The hybrids 7, 9, 19, and 22 were found to be the most suitable for growing in the tested locations.
