Organic farming boosts crop yields and profits, improves soil health for vulnerable communities.
Researchers studied how organic farming with different natural fertilizers affects the productivity and soil health of groundnut and chickpea crops. They tested combinations of farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost, and castor cake in the crops. Results showed that using FYM with castor cake on groundnuts increased yields significantly, while vermicompost with castor cake on chickpeas also boosted yields. These treatments improved plant growth, yield, and quality, leading to higher profits for farmers. The organic fertilizers also increased the uptake of essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium by the crops. Additionally, they helped enhance the soil's organic carbon levels and made nutrients more available for the plants.
