Revolutionizing Garlic Farming: Vermicompost Boosts Yield and Profit in Ethiopia
Garlic growth and yield in Ethiopia can be improved by using vermicompost and mineral fertilizer. A study in Haramaya University found that applying 7.5 tons of vermicompost per hectare along with 130 kg of mineral nitrogen fertilizer per hectare resulted in the highest marketable bulb yield and net benefit. This combination also reduced unmarketable bulb yield by 41.03% compared to no fertilizer application. Additionally, early maturity was observed with no fertilizer, while late maturity occurred with 7.5 tons of vermicompost. The best results were seen with a combination of high vermicompost and mineral nitrogen fertilizer rates, showing promise for garlic production in the area.
