Potato cultivation in rice-fallow boosts farmers' income in Sikkim.
Potato cultivation in rice-fallow fields in Sikkim was studied by conducting demonstrations in farmers' fields. Results showed that growing potatoes alongside rice increased overall yield and income for farmers. The rice-potato system had higher yields, production efficiency, land use efficiency, net returns, benefit to cost ratio, and economic efficiency compared to the traditional rice-fallow system. This suggests that planting potatoes in rice-fallow fields can help farmers earn more money and improve their livelihoods.
