Urbanization Threatens Bird Species Richness in Degraded Forest Habitats.
Bird species richness and abundance were studied in an urban degraded forest in Central Nigeria. A total of 306 birds from 65 species were found. Birds were more abundant and diverse in the forest interior compared to areas near human settlements. More trees in the habitat were linked to more bird species. Human activities and poor forest management may be harming bird populations. Forest management and habitat structure together affect bird abundance, not just habitat structure alone.
