Planting the Right Vegetation Can Save Soil Moisture on Steep Slopes
Soil moisture on steep gully slopes is influenced by rainfall and plant types. This study looked at how different types of rain and plants affect soil moisture. They found that factors like amount and intensity of rain, soil initial water content, and slope gradient play a big role in soil moisture changes. Soil moisture varied throughout the year, with levels changing from January to June, then increasing from July to September, and decreasing again from October to December. Soil water storage was similar in 2019 and 2020 but varied between plant communities due to differences in plant biomass and soil characteristics. This information can help choose the best plants for restoring soil on steep slopes in dry regions.
