Egypt Faces Severe Water Crisis by 2050 as Demand Outpaces Supply
In Egypt, the supply of water is lower than what people need. By 2019, Egypt lacked 21 billion cubic meters of water each year. To feed people and sustain growth, they had to import the equivalent of 34 billion m3 of water in food. The gap is predicted to grow by 2050, so action is needed. The government is making plans for the present and future to manage the water shortage, considering factors like population growth and climate change. Different strategies are explored, using both traditional (like Nile water and rain) and new water sources (such as treated wastewater), to secure Egypt's water supply.
