High rainfall leads to low fertility in West Sulawesi soils.
The researchers studied soil in Mamuju, West Sulawesi to understand its characteristics and classification. They found that the soil texture was mostly clay due to high rainfall and easily weathered rocks. Chemical properties like pH and nutrient levels were low and consistent with depth. The soil was classified as Inceptisols because of a cambic sub-horizon caused by physical and chemical processes. The soil profiles had a humid climate and were categorized as udepts. The temperature regime led to classification as Dystrudepts, with different sub-groups based on specific characteristics.
