Deforestation in Alkaleri Local Government Area Threatens Ecosystem and Water Supply
The study used satellite remote sensing to track changes in land cover in Alkaleri Forest in Bauchi State over three decades. By analyzing Landsat images, researchers found that the forest cover has decreased significantly from 1990 to 2013, mainly due to human activities like farming and deforestation for fuel. This loss of vegetation increases the risk of drought in the area. The findings suggest a need for better management of land resources to prevent further depletion of the forest cover.
