Pandemic Cuts Emissions in US, China, and Africa, but Increases in EU
The Covid-19 pandemic caused job losses and a decrease in production capacity worldwide, which led to lower CO2 emissions. A model was created to study this link between the pandemic and pollution. By analyzing data from four regions, researchers found that the environmental impact of Covid-19 varied depending on the country's economy structure. The USA, China, and Sub-Saharan Africa reduced their CO2 emissions, while the EU saw an increase instead. This suggests that the pandemic's effect on pollution levels differs across different regions.
