Parameter estimation in geosciences is crucial, and the pilot point ensemble Kalman filter (PP-EnKF) is a promising method for this. The PP-EnKF was evaluated against seven other methods in tracer and well setups, showing better performance and closer correlation structures to a reference model. It effectively avoids spurious correlations and filter divergence, making it a valuable tool for accurate parameter estimation in large, time-dependent systems.
