Nutrient deficiency in soil hindering tree growth in South African park.
The soil chemistry in shrublands and woodlands of the central Kruger National Park was studied to see how it affects the growth of Colophospermum mopane plants. The shrublands had lower levels of important nutrients like phosphorus, potassium, and boron compared to the woodlands. The lack of boron in the shrublands is likely stopping the C. mopane shrubs from growing into trees, making the grasses stronger in those areas.
