New Sorghum Varieties Boost Forage Yields, Transforming Livestock Feeding Practices.
The researchers studied how different types of sorghum, planting dates, and harvest ages affect the growth and forage yield of grain sorghum in Shika, Nigeria. They found that Samsorg-16 sorghum variety had taller plants compared to Samsorg-17. Plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area decreased as planting dates got later, but increased as harvest ages got older. The interaction between variety and planting date affected plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area. There was no significant difference in forage yield between sorghum varieties. However, forage yield decreased with later planting dates but increased with older harvest ages.
