Industrial CCS Crucial to Curb Emissions and Sustain Energy-Intensive Industries
Industrial carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology can help significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in challenging sectors like cement, steel, and chemicals production. By using a global economic model, researchers studied how applying industrial CCS in these sectors could limit global temperature increase to 2°C above pre-industrial levels. The results show that without industrial CCS, the cost of meeting emission reduction goals would be much higher by 12% in 2075 and 71% in 2100. With industrial CCS, we can cut emissions while still allowing growth in energy-intensive industries. Essentially, industrial CCS is crucial for achieving strict climate goals and could play a major role in reducing emissions globally.
