Pesticide exposure puts fish at risk of death in minutes.
Aquatic fish were exposed to different pesticides for short periods to see how it affected their survival. The study found that tilapia were more at risk than catfish when continuously exposed to pesticides. However, both species had similar survival rates when exposed for 15, 30, and 45 minutes. After 60 minutes, the risk of death increased for both species. Catfish exposed briefly to certain pesticides had similar risk levels as those exposed continuously for 96 hours. The size of the fish also played a role, with larger fish being less affected by the pesticides. This study suggests that studying how different factors influence pesticide toxicity in fish can help make pesticide exposure assessments more accurate.
