New model improves accuracy of predicting soil erosion in Iran watersheds.
Accelerated soil erosion is a big problem in many parts of Iran. To help reduce erosion damage, a study was done on 63 watersheds to test a model that estimates soil erosion and sediment yield. The model used in Iran, called the Erosion Potential Method, was found to underestimate sediment yields in most cases. By adjusting the model, the estimates improved significantly, especially in the Central, Zagros, and Northeast regions. It is recommended to use the modified model for better accuracy in predicting erosion potential.
