Irrigating with Salty Water Leads to Soil Salinity Crisis
Irrigating with salty water can make soil salty. Proper drainage helps remove extra salt from the soil. If drainage systems are disrupted, salt can build up. Saline groundwater and salty irrigation water can worsen soil salinity. Using a lot of irrigation water can raise groundwater levels and move salt around. If the water used for irrigation is already salty, it makes the soil even saltier.
