Bangladeshi doctors incentivized to serve rural communities, boosting healthcare access.
Doctor absenteeism is a big issue in rural Bangladesh. A study was done to find out what would make doctors want to stay in rural areas. They asked 308 doctors about different job aspects like community relationships, security, attendance policies, and incentives. Doctors liked jobs with good community relationships, attendance-based rewards, security, and higher pay. They didn't like jobs with punishments for missing work. The study found that different groups of doctors had different preferences. By understanding what doctors want, policies can be made to reduce absenteeism and improve healthcare in rural Bangladesh.
