Sunflowers reveal environmental pollution levels, impacting plant growth and health.
Sunflowers were studied to see if they could show how polluted an area is. The researchers looked at sunflowers in different places near an industrial zone in Zaporizhzhia. They also studied different types of sunflowers grown in the same area. They found that sunflowers closer to the industrial zone had more differences in their leaf shapes. But overall, sunflowers didn't work well as pollution indicators. Different types of sunflowers also showed big differences in their leaf shapes, even when grown in the same conditions.
