Landfill leachate poses threat to groundwater with high metal concentrations.
The researchers studied the properties of leachate from a landfill at a university in Baghdad. They found that the pH of the leachate was alkaline, with a range of 5.5-7.9. The highest metal concentration in the leachate was Iron at 220 ppm. Other key findings include COD levels ranging from 700-1700 mg/L, Chloride levels from 280-555 mg/L, and TDS levels from 2350-10500 mg/L. The geotechnical properties of the leachate can change significantly when it moves into the surrounding soil.
