Stable isotopes in precipitation in the Asian monsoon edge region change with the seasons, showing that monsoon water vapor is the main source of rain. Cloud cover in the equatorial North Pacific affects the isotopes in the rain, with high clouds having the biggest impact. This means that the type of clouds in the middle troposphere play a significant role in shaping the isotopic composition of precipitation in this area.
