Public investment in highways boosts private investment in the US economy.
The study looked at how investing in highways affects private investment in the US. They found that public investment in highways initially reduces private investment, but then it actually encourages more private investment. This positive impact on private investment is strongest within 3 years of the public investment and fades after about 10 years. Different ways of analyzing the data all showed the same result: public investment in highways boosts private investment in the short term.
