Software maintenance is a challenging and costly phase in the life cycle of software. Small software companies often lack the resources to improve their maintenance practices. A study reflects on experiences in assessing and enhancing software maintenance in a small software company. Software engineers find maintenance tasks less interesting than development tasks, and there is less scholarly knowledge on maintenance compared to development.
