Untapped Reservoir Potential Discovered in Foreland Basin Margins
Fluvial fans in the Pyrenees show different types of sediment deposits from flash floods to meandering streams. The deposits in the Puig-reig anticline have low porosity due to compaction and cementation, but some sandstone areas have higher porosity. Thrusting and folding created fractures in the sandstone, potentially improving reservoir potential. Similar areas worldwide could also be good for reservoirs, even with low porosity.
