ASEAN human rights body fails to uphold rights in Southeast Asia.
Human rights are fundamental freedoms that all humans are entitled to, including civil, political, social, cultural, and economic rights. The ASEAN human rights body lacks clear terms of reference, making it ineffective in protecting human rights in Southeast Asia. The researchers analyzed human rights violations in ASEAN Member States and compared them to international human rights conventions. They then proposed possible terms of reference for the ASEAN human rights body to improve its effectiveness.
