The study looked at how mining short distance coal seams in western China affects rock strata and causes subsidence. By using water consumption and borehole TV observations, researchers found that rocks closer to the mining area had larger fractures. Numerical simulations showed that rock deformation increased as the mining face advanced. The study also found that subsidence effects were greater in deeper areas compared to shallow ones.
