New brinjal traits promise higher yields and reduced pest damage
The study looked at different traits in brinjal plants to find the best ones for cultivation. They used seven parent plants and made twenty-one hybrids to see which ones performed the best. They found that some plants had significantly higher marketable yield per plant than others. Traits like fruit width and resistance to pests showed moderate variation. Marketable fruit yield and pest resistance were found to be highly heritable and important for improving brinjal plants. The number of fruits, fruit weight, and plant height were positively correlated with higher marketable yield, suggesting they are key factors for selecting high-yielding brinjal plants.
