Urban wetlands in China show varying water quality based on land use.
The study compared wetland ecosystems in China to see how different management approaches affect water quality and functions. They looked at two wetlands near big cities, Nansha and Tianfu, and found that natural vegetation areas were best at cleaning water. Wetland agriculture areas did the worst job at keeping sediment and nutrients out of the water. The study showed that where the wetland is and how it's used can change how well it provides important services like cleaning water. Citizen scientists helped gather data for the study, which can help wetland managers make better decisions.
