Flood-prone Urban Areas Identified, Enabling Disaster Preparedness in Nigeria
Flood prediction is crucial for managing land and water resources. In Southwest Nigeria, geospatial technology was used to assess runoff potential in the Opa watershed. By analyzing satellite imagery and soil types, researchers determined which areas were more likely to experience runoff during rainfall. They found that urban areas had higher runoff potential compared to vegetated areas. This study shows that using remote sensing and hydrological techniques can help predict floods and manage urban watersheds effectively.
