Wheat farmers boost yields and profits by planting at optimal time
In the study, different planting dates and wheat types were tested to see how they affect the growth and yield of wheat crops. Planting on November 15 led to taller wheat plants and more tillers compared to planting on December 1. Among the wheat varieties, HD - 2733 had the most effective tillers and grains per spike, with HD - 2824 close behind. The highest grain yield of 37.80 q/ha was achieved with November 15 planting. This early planting date also resulted in higher profits, with a net return of Rs. 45,650 and a benefit-cost ratio of 2.46. The HD - 2733 wheat variety showed the best results, with a net return of Rs. 52,435 and a benefit-cost ratio of 2.02. Choosing the right planting date and wheat variety can help increase wheat yield and profits despite challenges like heat stress after flowering.
