A new method was developed to monitor ship engines by using AI to detect anomalies in sensor data. Unlike previous methods, this one can explain why a data point is flagged as an anomaly. By using SHAP, the method can show which sensor is causing the anomaly. The researchers tested the method on real data from a cargo ship and found that using SHAP values helps to better understand and group anomalies.
