Artists with Cognitive Disabilities Empowered to Pursue Their Passions
This dissertation explores how people with cognitive and intellectual disabilities can pursue their dreams of being artists. The researchers studied 16 artists in a studio setting, along with 8 individuals who support them. They used various methods like interviews, artwork creation, and personal experiences to understand the artists' journeys. Each chapter starts with an artwork and statement to guide the reader. The study found that the artists' unique styles and reasons for creating art should be recognized simply as Art, rather than being labeled under different categories like Outsider Art.
