Crop waste transformed into biofuel, boosting sustainable energy for millions.
Liquid ammonia treatment (LAT) was used to pretreat different types of crop straw to make it easier to break down. The treatment changed the structure of the straw, making it more accessible to enzymes. Wheat straw and sorghum straw showed the highest increase in enzymatic breakdown efficiency after LAT. The optimal pretreatment temperature varied for each type of straw. Overall, LAT can improve the process of breaking down crop straw into useful components.
