Peak fishing seasons for large pelagic fish revealed in Indonesian waters.
Large pelagic fish like yellowfin tuna, skipjack tuna, mackerel tuna, and mackerel are commonly caught by fishermen using purse seines in Idi Rayeuk waters, East Aceh, Indonesia. The study aimed to determine the size and weight of these fish and identify the best fishing seasons. Data collected from 2015 to 2019 revealed that yellowfin tuna and mackerel tuna are most abundant in May and June, while skipjack tuna peaks in May, August, and October. Mackerel fishing is best in May, September, and October. The size and weight of these fish varied, with yellowfin tuna ranging from 37-58 cm and 1.0-3.2 kg, skipjack tuna from 32-58 cm and 0.5-3.0 kg, mackerel tuna from 33-54 cm and 0.6-2.5 kg, and mackerel from 44-66 cm and 0.7-1.7 kg.
