Sorghum Varieties Thrive in Diverse Soils, Boosting Food Security for Drought-Prone Regions
In this study, researchers compared how well 20 different types of sorghum grew in areas with different soil quality and when planted at different times. They looked at which sorghum varieties produced the most fresh and dry matter. The results showed that KWS Merlin sorghum had the highest yields when planted in late May in less fertile locations. On the other hand, the lowest yields came from KHS5G07 and Arsenio types of sorghum in different situations. The study found that the type of sorghum variety and its form (grain or non-grain) had a bigger impact on yields than the soil type. Planting sorghum in late May was also found to be better, and certain sorghum varieties could grow well in various locations with different soil qualities but still give similar yields.
