Island Beaches at Risk: New Method to Combat Erosion Threat.
Island beaches are at risk of erosion due to rising sea levels. A new method was developed to assess the importance of beaches, their vulnerability to erosion, and how to protect them. The method involves ranking beaches based on their importance and vulnerability, monitoring their conditions, calculating the amount of sand needed for nourishment, and identifying potential sources of sand. This method was tested on Chios, a Greek island with eroding beaches, and was found to be effective in helping prioritize and respond to beach erosion.
