Fishing is a major threat to marine species, causing biodiversity loss and ecosystem disruption. To protect species, policies exist at different levels, from international agreements to regional management organizations. These rules limit where, when, and how fishing can happen, aiming to reduce impacts on species of conservation concern. Despite efforts to manage fishing impacts, there are still significant issues and gaps in fisheries management.
