Wheat Farmers Rejoice: Optimal Sowing Dates Boost Yields by 48%
The researchers wanted to figure out how different planting dates affect the yield of spring wheat varieties in Neishabour. They planted wheat at three different times – in October, November, and December – and tested six different wheat types. The results showed that planting in October gave the highest wheat yield. Delaying planting led to lower yields, reducing it by around 46-48% each year. They found that the number of wheat spikes per area was the most important factor affecting how much wheat was produced. Overall, for the two years studied, the wheat variety called Parsi did the best, especially when planted in October, giving the highest yield.
