Pyrolysis gas from adhesive weakens thermal insulation of SiO2 aerogel.
The study looked at how the heat insulation of SiO2 aerogel is affected by the gas produced when phenolic resin is heated. The researchers found that the gas from the resin can reduce the insulation of the aerogel, especially when more resin is used. However, higher pressure can help improve the insulation by storing more gas in the aerogel.
