The article explores how challenges in emerging markets affect Western multinational corporations. These challenges impact costs, strategies, and competitiveness for these corporations. Despite investment opportunities and growth in emerging economies, imprudent policies and governance structures can hinder Western MNCs' success. The study uses content analysis to analyze the negative impact of institutional voids in emerging markets on MNCs. The findings suggest that Western MNCs face obstacles in these markets due to the competitive landscape shaped by emerging market policymakers. The article provides recommendations for success for MNCs operating in emerging economies.
