Stark disparities in multigenerational mobility for socially disadvantaged groups in India
The study looked at how education and job status are passed down through three generations in India. They used data from the Indian Human Development Survey to see if people are moving up or down in social status over time. They found that education mobility has increased over generations, but job mobility has not. Socially disadvantaged groups like Muslims are falling behind compared to Hindus. However, other disadvantaged groups like Scheduled Castes are seeing more education mobility. Overall, there is more progress in education than in job status across generations in India.
